From November 28 to 30, a delegation from the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NNC RK) visited our institute for an exchange. The delegation was led by Erlan Batyrbekov, Director General of NNC RK, accompanied by Vladimir Vityuk, Deputy Director General of NNC RK, Viktor Baklanov, First Deputy Director of the Institute of Atomic Energy (IAE), and Assan Aidarkhanov, Director of the Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology (IRSE). This marked the first visit of NNC RK to our institute. Leaders at the China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) received the delegation, including Director General Xin Feng, Deputy Director General Yang Hongyi, Zhang Libo and Yao Weihua, Chief Engineer Li Penghui, as well as Chief Accountant Chen Zan.

NNC RK, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, serves as the largest nuclear research institution in Kazakhstan, housing multiple nuclear facilities. During the IAEA General Conference held in September, CIAE signed a memorandum of cooperation with NNC RK.

On November 30, both parties conducted an in-depth exchange on topics including nuclear energy and fusion, radiation safety and ecology, reactor engineering technology, advancements in disposal chemistry research, nuclear security products and applications, advanced technologies and equipment for radiation safety, as well as decommissioning and remediation technologies, reaching a consensus on relevant matters. Both parties have agreed to establish a regular cooperation mechanism through the organization of annual seminars, alternating between the two countries. The first meeting is scheduled to take place in Kazakhstan next year. Additionally, CIAE will assist the Kazakh side in training personnel involved in sodium technology. Furthermore, both parties will continue communication and collaboration in various areas, including irradiation testing, supply of sodium-related equipment, and personnel exchange.
